Placer County History Award Criteria

 

A person(s) or a group/organization may be recognized for significant contribution to Placer County History, by the bestowing of the Placer County History Award.

 

The following criteria is used to select an awardee who need only excel in one area:

  1. A person(s) who has written an outstanding, carefully documented print history of an area or aspect of Placer County history.

  2. A person(s) who has collected and preserved a wide variety of historical artifacts that relate either to Placer County or an aspect of Placer County history.

  3. A person(s) who has produced a “born-digital” history related to Placer County history, e.g. a web site created to tell a story.

  4. A person(s) who has vastly improved an already existing archive center or set up an archive from scratch, using standard archival principles.

  5. A person(s) who has produced an audio-visual history of Placer County history, e.g. a documentary, or oral history project that has been presented to audiences or can be viewed on a television screen or computer monitor or listened to on a CD player.

  6. A person(s) who has collected, selected, edited, and published a historical compilation, e.g. all pioneers/settlers in a geographic area.

  7. A person(s) who has organized and directed an especially creative and meaningful anniversary celebration related to Placer County history.

  8. Restoration of a historic building.

 

The Award is determined by the Placer County History Award Committee, consisting of two members each from the Placer County Historical Society and the Placer County Historical Foundation.

 

Current committee members are Hal Hall, April McDonald, Mike Lynch and Mike Holmes.
