The ladies living in the Long Valley
area off Rattlesnake Road NEW
The ladies living in the Long Valley area off Rattlesnake Road, formed the
“Long Valley Study Club” , Not all lived in Long Valley, but had at one time
been associated with that area, Their programs consisted mostly of the study
of California and Placer County History. The program I have is from
1960-61. Those listed as members have all passed on but represented the
older families in the area at the time.
In 1960 the President was Ethe Scott (Scott’s Corner Store); 1st
Vice Pres. Edith Ammon; 2nd Vice Pres. Juanita Anelski;
Secretary-Treas. Mary Bradbury.
The other members were: Agnes Ammon, Sadie Andregg, Edma Carson,
Carmen Crocket, Eva Crosthwaite, Wilma Currier, Sadie Ferry, Beryl Garcia,
Alice Kelley, Arline Morris, Luella Oliver, Dorothy Sullivan, Bessie
Threlkel, Dorothy Threlkel, Alta Van Riper, Carolyn Wakefield, Julia Van
Riper, Dolores Williams and Grace Wynkoop.
The Club Motto was, “It isn’t the club you belong to,
It’s just how you take it, It’s not the
subject assigned you But just what you make it”
The theme of this meeting was the “History of California the United Nations”
When taking roll call, the members had to answer with the names of towns in
Placer County.
Other programs were: Birds of California and Flags of California.
This was an example of the social network at that time before cell phones,
computers and e mails. People in a community got together to socialize and
get to know their neighbors.
