He was born November 14, 1846 in Vermland, Sweden. . .he served the required time in the army before he left for America. . .In 1875 he came to California and found work in a copper mine at Spenceville. . . .in 1876 he removed to the Ophir section of Placer County. . .He began to prospect and purchased a mining claim of 15 acres. . . located on Duncan Hill east of Ophir. . .taking out as much as $5000 in a year at the same time he bought 15 acres, his home place, which is now a full-bearing orchard.
At Ophir, on September 8, 1878, he married Miss Anna Olivia Laurin. . .they have seven children. . .Andrew Henry, . . married in 1902 to Miss Henrietta Hathaway, born at Ophir a daughter of Welcome and Ella (Thompson) Hathaway. In early days, Mr. Hathaway operated the Hathaway Mine, below Ophir. He was also a successful merchant. . .There are seven children in this family. . .Amanda, the youngest child of Andrew Henry, Jr. married W. B. Lardner (ed. note–one of the authors of the 1924 History of Placer and Nevada County) a leading contractor and builder in Auburn.. . they had seven children.
