FORESTHILL ELECTRIFIED
excerpts from PG&E Progesss, Feb. 1947

Foresthill was added to the PG&E family by the construction of 8 1/4 miles of transmission line from Weimar and celebrated the occasion around its very first electrically lighted Christmas tree, which was put up in the main street. By means of local extensions, electricity came also to the neighboring old-time towns of Michigan Bluff and Yankee Jims, plus several lumber mills and ranches. Service began with 160 customers in Foresthill, 17 in Michigan Bluff and 13 in Yankee Jims.

Among the new customers in Foresthill are Mr. and Mrs. John B. McCormick. . . who never used electricity before. McCormick, a native of Ilinois was brought to Foresthill in 1874, when he was only a year old. . .He worked as a miner for a long period.

The electric facilities in their home include lights, a range, refrigerator, vacuum cleaner, coffee maker, toaster and clock. . .

They are enthusiastic about their new conveniences, but Mrs. McCormick reports that "paw is having a little trouble getting used to the one feature". Because of nearly three quarters of a century habit, he never thinks to turn on his modern illumination when he gets up on dark mornings, but still mechanically lights a candle.
